But if 200% defense bonus means your units can survive two hits instead of just one, I think it's worth getting that bonus. If 50% and 200% defense bonus both mean your units are dead in two hits, then the defense increase isn't needed. It's a lot like attack though, in that it only helps once it's allowing you to survive an extra attack (or kill in one less attack, in the case of attack bonus). In these situations, AKA when using normal units, more defense is definitely helpful as when I'm taking hits, I want to be taking less damage. That way I'm able to attack on that turn instead of having a Rogue standing around uselessly. There are some situations in the later ages where a Rogue may get the opportunity to take its turn as a Rogue, and possibly even attack as one, but I'm of the opinion that if a Rogue doesn't get transformed on its first turn in later ages, I'm better off using a normal unit in its place instead. However, in the later ages, Rogues gradually start to become nothing more than that free hit as their movement becomes crippled moving into Progressive and enemy units get more and more range/mobility, along with defenses that can absorb the Rogue's attack.

In the early ages where this is usually the case, defense isn't as important whatever you need will come naturally with the GBs you're probably leveling for attack power. For a good chunk of the game, Rogues are often able to be used as offensive units as well, being able to attack before they get transformed.
